The Effect of Text Messaging on EFL Learners' Lexical Depth and Breadth

Using technology in the classroom context can be an effective way to learn a foreign or second language. Vocabulary is considered one of important skills for identifying learner's performance various academic and non-academic contexts. The present paper investigated effect text messaging on learners' lexical knowledge vocabulary size by using mobile learning ( m-learning). After administration Oxford Placement Test, total 37 EFL learners were selected as sample study. Before treatment process, word association test (WAT) updated level (UVLT) administered pre-tests. received six items from their coursebook through SMSs three times week addition in-class instruction. finishing WAT UVLT tests again post-tests assess achievement effectiveness treatment. Since normality data distribution was not confirmed, Wilcoxon signed-rank run mean comparisons. findings showed no meaningful difference between pre-tests regarding depth scores, while there statistically significant based breadth. Therefore, it claimed that via m-learning had impact Curriculum developers teachers benefit current study considering significance teaching different aspects knowledge.
